Technology Survey

The Technology Survey identifies and discusses the nine candidate alternative technologies to the current ink stenciling process. The nine broad categories of alternatives to ink stenciling included

  • Elimination of identification marking
  • Alternative inks for stenciling
  • Dot peen marking
  • Electrochemical etching
  • Laser marking
  • Machine engraving
  • Microabrasion
  • Self-adhesive labeling
  • Stamping.

This report contains a description of the search strategy used to identify the alternative materials and technologies, a brief description of each identified alternative, and bibliographic citations of the relevant articles that were identified during literature searches.
