Aircraft Exteriors

(Boeing Military Aircraft and Missile Systems Group)
Project Number: J-95-OC-002

Potential Alternatives Report

A PAR, dated May 1, 1998, identifies the baseline process and discusses potential alternative coatings being considered for use on aircraft exteriors. The PAR also summarizes an analysis of environmental, safety, and health issues associated with the current chromate primers and the alternative nonchromate primers, and it documents the down-selection process. Alternatives considered in the PAR include high-solids coatings, powder coatings, waterborne coatings, and electrocoatings. In selecting alternatives to be tested, the project participants considered VOC content, hazardous constituents, and other factors affecting use of the coating.
