Milestones and Prior Decisions:

  • Preliminary JG-PP CBA was performed at five facilities:
    • Kennedy Space Center
    • Marine Corps Logistics Base - Albany
    • Naval Aviation Depot
    • Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center
    • Red River Army Depot.
  • Technical representatives identified preliminary lists of proposed alternatives as well as proposed platforms for demonstration:
    • AC-131 (formerly Boegel)
    • Alodine 5200/5700
    • Bi-K Aklimate
    • Brent Chemcoat Oxsilan 0500
    • Chemidize 727D
    • Sanchem Safeguard 7000
    • TCP
    • X-it Prekote.
  • Technical representatives agreed that, as general validation criteria, potential alternatives must perform as well as or better than chromate conversion coatings by themselves (bare/unpainted) or with representative coating systems.
  • Leverage previous work including:
    • JG-PP, Chrome-Free Conversion Coating Project (HMSC)
    • Army, Non-Chrome Coating Process and Organosilane Pretreatment Process
    • NAVAIR, Alternatives to Chrome Conversion Coatings
    • Air Force, nonchromated conversion test and evaluation.
  • Specifications and standards for verifying technology include:
    • Conversion coatings
      • AMS-2474B
      • AMS-2473E
      • MIL-C-5541E
      • MIL-DTL-81706A
